The vows you make to each other on your wedding day are very special and form the contract of your marriage.  Two witnesses who are 18 years or older and who hear and understand the 'lawful vows' you make to each other are required to sign the marriage certificates.

In marriage ceremonies performed by Cvil Marriage Celebrants in Australia, the Marriage Act requires the following 'lawful vow' be spoken by both parties to the marriage during the ceremony:

 "I, AB (Bride/Groom Name) call upon all persons here present
to witness that I take you, CD (Groom/Bride Name)
to be my lawful wedded (wife/husband)"

As well as these 'lawful vows' you may wish to express your values, feelings, hopes and dreams for your married life in your very own personal wedding vows during the wedding ceremony.  You may choose to read your personal wedding vows, say them from memory, or repeat them after the Celebrant.
